Southpaw is Gilbert O’Sullivan‘s fifth studio album, originally released in November 1977.
The first album to be produced by Gilbert himself and featuring the usual wide variety of high class original O’Sullivan compositions, Southpaw is the sound of an artist really enjoying the process of running things in the studio as he inspired superb performances from all concerned; including guitarist Chris Spedding, keyboard player Tony Hymas and the Mike Sammes Singers. Nine bonus non-album singles and b-sides are included.
The magnificent cover was produced by Bob Hook, occasional blues pianist on Gilbert’s sessions and the only one of Gilbert’s art-school friends who made it as a professional artist. That s Bob’s own hand on the sleeve,” says Gilbert.
